Posted February 3, 2019 09:11:17A Kentucky job fair is taking place today, February 3.
It is an opportunity for employers to talk to prospective workers and get their thoughts on job offers and their plans for finding work.
The Kentucky Jobs and Unemployment Agency will host a job fair on the first Saturday in February at 10 a.m. at the Lexington Civic Center, 1425 Lexington St. The event is free and open to the public.
Kentucky has been one of the hardest hit states by the economic downturn.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Kentucky has lost 6,000 jobs since the beginning of 2018.
The state’s unemployment rate has dropped by more than 40% since the start of the recession, from 6.5% in September 2015 to 5.9% in November 2018.
This is the second annual job fair to be held in Lexington this year.
In September, more than 600 job seekers took advantage of the opportunity to get interviews.
The Lexington event will have a different format this year because it will be held at the local county fairgrounds instead of in the downtown area of the city.
Employers can visit the Kentucky Jobs, Unemployment and Job Training website for more information about this job fair.
