So you’ve been shortlisted for the Ascend start-up competition at Innovation Nation – congrats!

Here are some of our top tips…

Timing:

Go for quality over quantity. You only have a limited amount of time in order to wow the judges, so make sure you work within the limits given to you!

Balance:

Providing context for your idea is great, but you don’t want to bog down your ideas with lots of unnecessary details. Try to focus on your concept – outline why the problem needs solved and then focus on showing us how your idea is the best solution.

Simple:

It can be tempting to show off for a panel of judges, but don’t forget to keep your pitch as clear and simple as possible. Keep your language professional but to the point – you want your audience to focus on your fantastic pitch instead of trying to figure out what you mean!

Know what you want:

Be clear about what you want from your audience – they need to know what you’re asking for before they can decide whether they support you.

Communication:

Be clear when delivering your pitch. Make sure you practice so that your delivery is the best it can be. After all, practice makes perfect!

Passion:

You’re the one who has nursed this idea from the beginning the whole way to the point it is at now, and don’t forget it! Show your passion and pride for what you’re pitching, and it will show – your ideas are worth sharing with the world and we’re excited to hear them.
